Why is Carrageenan better than other leading brands?
Carrageenan is water-based and contains no silicones. Pure, clean water, carrageenan and other natural ingredients make this lubricant safe as well as effective. While research continues into silicone’s safety, you will not have to worry about using Carrageenan, which contains no silicone.
Carrageenan is pH balanced and compatible with a healthy vaginal environment providing relief from vaginal dryness while complementing natural body fluids. This allows for increased intimacy and physical pleasure for men and women.
Studies show that carrageenan is non-irritating and safe for everyday use. Plus Oceanus™ does not do any animal testing.
A unique ingredient, a unique formula, a unique package – Carrageenan, a truly unique personal lubricant! Explore physical pleasure in comfort.

The demographic target for Carrageenan Personal Lubricant includes the sexually active of all ages with an emphasis on thirty-five and older females; the primary household shopper.
Meeting a woman’s needs is the number one objective for Oceanus™. Our research staff includes a female master chemist over 40 years of age who fully understands the objective: formulating for a woman.
A 4oz (100 ml) is the first SKU. We will follow this SKU with a warming personal lubricant and a 50 ml bottle. Our intent is to develop Oceanus™ as a major brand with a full range of products made from carrageenan. Research is currently under way to potentially develop skin care products including cold sore treatments, hand sanitizers and anti-aging ointments.
What are the benefits of the pump?
Consumers had concerns about using the correct amount. Oceanus™ gave the consumer what it requested - a metered dose applicator pump, which will pump in any position, even upside down. The metered dose approximates the volume of secretion naturally secreted by women.
Carrageenan is both the name of our lubricant and an ingredient naturally derived from seaweed. Carrageenan "the ingredient" is named after Irish Moss seaweeds, also known as Carrageenan Moss. Carrageenan is widely used in the food and personal care industries. Although introduced on an industrial scale in the 1930s, the first uses of Carrageenan were in China around 600 BC and in Ireland around 400 AD.
"Microbicides" act to either disrupt or disable a pathogen thereby preventing colonization or infection of the host.
What is Microbicide?
"Microbicides" act to either disrupt or disable a pathogen thereby preventing colonization or infection of the host.
Derived from nature, Carrageenan Personal Lubricant contains materials derived from natural seaweed called carrageenan, which offers excellent lubricating qualities. Carrageenan, the ingredient, is derived from some of the oldest surviving sea plants on earth. We believe its natural ability to protect itself in the ocean may also benefit men and women.
The World Population Council has received hundreds of millions of dollars in funding from the likes of Bill & Melinda Gates and the Rockefeller Foundation to support microbicide research efforts including research on carrageenan-based formulas.
Why 100 applications?
The nozzle on the 100ml bottle dispenses a 1ml-measured dose when fully pressed; therefore a 100ml bottle will deliver 100 applications.
Is Carrageenan safe?
Purified water, carrageenan and other natural ingredients make this lubricant safe and effective. The Carrageenan™ Personal Lubricant product was developed, tested, and manufactured following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). All product labeling follow cosmetic regulations 21 CFR 701.
All ingredients in the product are listed as GRAS. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has its own set of standards by which it tests substances for human use. GRAS stands for "generally regarded as safe".
Oceanus™ finished product testing included the following: Microbial challenge testing (preservation effectiveness), skin irritation testing, latex compatibility testing and cytotoxicity testing. Cytotoxicity is a study that uses human cells in determining whether or not a formula/ingredient does damage to cells. Our formula was found to be non-toxic.
Is it pH balanced?
Carrageenan is pH balanced. A healthy woman maintains a pH of between 3.9 - 4.5 within the vagina; this low pH helps maintain a healthy environment within the vagina reducing growth of many unwanted micro organisms.
The Carrageenan formula is specifically adjusted to match the optimum natural environment within the vagina, thus reducing the risk of infection and complementing a woman’s natural body fluids.
The product has passed the human patch test, which confirmed it is non-irritating.
